SWITCH: High School

For students, the pressure comes from all sides. It tells them to compromise. It takes their lives and tries to convince them they are just preparing for what is to come. The high school years are seen as practice for real life. The problem is this isn’t practice, this isn’t rehearsal; this is it. The Student Ministry at OFC exists to help students make the SWITCH.  We exist to lead teenagers into growing relationships with Jesus Christ.  This is SWITCH at OFC:  The High School emphasis.

SWITCH.hs invests in the power of relationships to change lives.  The cliché, “people don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care,” is not just a cliché.  In the world of high school students, it’s a gospel.  This is why SWITCH.hs focuses on relationship; it’s because we care!

We have three main environments in SWITCH:

Sunday Mornings before or after our Worship Services at The Corner.

(Southwest corner of Sanctuary)

Sunday Mornings at OFC serve two functions:  1) develop relationships between teens and other teens, teens and intentional adults who care, and 2) distribute information to teens and their parents. For High School students, Sunday mornings at OFC support the small groups.

Small Groups

Life is much more complex and involved than the brief snapshots we see each Sunday morning. This is why small groups form the backbone of SWITCH Student Ministry.  Small groups are all about relationships between: 1) teens and God, 2) teens and intentional adults who care, 3) teens and other teens, and 4) teens and themselves.  We have multiple small groups that meet on different nights in homes.  For more info, contact Pastor Kim at the church office:  (815) 434-3794.

Events

We have a High School event just about every month throughout the year.  Events are designed to be fun, exciting, and welcoming so students feel comfortable inviting their friends to come!  Once students come to an event, we want to plug each of them into the other two environments of SWITCH:  Sunday Mornings and Small Groups.  Curious about what’s coming up next? Click here to see the Events Calendar!

Note to Parents

SWITCH is the student ministry at OFC.  However, SWITCH is not just about students; we are here for parents as well. We have Parent Parties in August, January, and May.  These are important meetings to attend! Also, Pastor Kim is available to speak with you anytime.  Call him at (815) 434-3794, or email him at pastorkim@ofcfamily.com Research has shown time and again that the most influential person in the life of a teenager is the parent.  That’s why SWITCH doesn’t try to replace parents, but instead partners with them.  Let us know how we can help you!
